Has anyone on here ever played a DoTA style game? or dota itself? I've been a dota player for over 5 years and I play it on a daily basis, though this last couple of years I've been playing HoN which is kind of a remake with a different engine, I also recently got a dota2 beta key but I can't say I care much for it, I'll wait till beta is over cause I don't like it's current status.
I've been trying to get into a few of them such as LoL and Dota 2 with the help of a friend, but I'm not really too good at the genre and its annoying me. Can't seem to grasp some of the basic terms and when I'm about to kill someone they run and I'm unable to slow them down.
I know what you mean, I remember when I first started I would rage-quit a lot, It's just not a simple gamestyle, you really need to hang in there until you get the grasp of it, it takes A LOT of practice and dedication.
My friend has been trying to encourage me to play it more, but the last time I played I had 1 kill and nearly 7 deaths due to "random" stuff I couldn't avoid. I ragequit after that match and its been nearly two - three weeks since I played Dota 2. I'll probably start playing it again soon, because he said that once I learn it it can be fun.
I am the exact same way. My friend keeps trying to get me into it, but it is just not my type of genre. I cannot seem to grasp the concepts of the games and I just endup quitting because I suck so bad
I've been addicted to LoL for the past couple of months, its a pretty solid game with a learning curve not as outrageous as HoN and DoTa, the community isn't worse than these games but it certainly isn't good. Just a little note, if you're planning on trying this game out or any MOBA really, find friends or clans to play with, you will not. i repeat. you will NOT enjoy playing these games solo at any point of your moba-life with all the raging trolls and feeders rampant in the community.
I have actually never tried any moba game. I have never even tried them. Kind of off topic but what moba game would you suggest i play as a first?
I would recommend you try League of Legends. The game is free(ofcourse there are things you can buy if you want to, but nothing that you actually need) it's quite easy and since you have to level up you will be mostly matched with people of similar skill at the beginning. Once you reach level 30(highest level) you can start playing ranked solo/team games. Like FlippinNinja said I would recommend that you play it with friends otherwise the game can be really frustrating at the beginning. In case people are wonderign why I recommended LoL instead of HoN or Dota, it's because unlike any other game League of Legends rarely have "leavers". You will get a leaver once every 100 games(that's just a random number, but at least for me it's pretty close to the truth) and you can't really expect the same thing on HoN and I don't even want to talk about Dota leavers :O
I have tried out League of Legends I unfortunately never played Dota. Although the developer for Dota is the main director for League of Legends! I do love both of these play styles though, Dota 2 (Valve's version) looks really interesting with its different playlists. The problem I see is when Blizzards Dota (also known as Dota 2) comes out. Blizzard fans are going to buy it because it is Blizzard and I think Valve's Dota will take a big fall for this. Even though Valve's Dota looks far superior to Blizzard's Dota!
The first time I played a Dota map was in StarCraft 2. I don't know if it's currently still being played but it was called SOTIS, or Storm of the Imperial Sanctum. It was an awesome map and it immediately had me hooked from the start! I heard of League of Legends and Heroes of Newearth not to long after playing SOTIS and chose League of Legends simply because it was free. I can say that League of Legends although free does have slower game play and is to me a bit easier than a true DoTA map with there being no penalties for dying besides waiting to respawn and there aren't any denies when farming creep either. I do however look forward to the blizzard version of Dota because lets face it, Blizzard makes great games and yeah fans will buy it but still, its Blizzard! When it all comes down to it, it's amazing to see how much Dota has grown in popularity over the years considering it started as a custom map in WarCraft III.
